Kenwood K814WM14 Grumbling Noise When filling & Draining Water
My kenwood washing machine is making a grumbling - rattling noise when filling and draining water ? the machine fills and drains ok but with a grumble - rattle noise ?. I checked the filter and found metal hair clips / curbees in there so cleaned all out and machine still making this noise ? Does this mean the pump drain filter needs replaced ? Thanks in advance.

Kenwood K814WM14 grumbling/rattling noise during fill and drain
- The problem
- A Kenwood K814WM14 washing machine was reported to make a grumbling or rattling noise when filling and draining. The machine was still filling and draining normally. The filter had been checked and metal hair clips were removed, but the noise remained.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply advised that the same component is unlikely to be responsible for noise on both filling and draining, because draining uses the pump and filling uses the water valves. The more likely explanation suggested was another moving part operating during those stages, such as the drum and motor, and possibly a redistribution pump while filling.
- What fixed it
- No confirmed repair was given. The accepted advice was to distinguish whether the noise happens specifically during filling or emptying, as this would help identify whether the sound is actually coming from another component operating at the same time rather than the drain pump filter.
- Checks to try
- Drain filter checked and cleaned
- Metal hair clips were found in the filter and removed
- Machine still filled and drained correctly after cleaning
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hi. Draining water uses the pump and filling with water uses the water valves. There isn't anything that should be able to cause the same noise on both functions. Is it making this noise when filling or emptying?
If it's when filling up though the drum and motor could be turning too, and even a redistribution pump could be running, all of which could account for a noise. When draining water the drum and motor also usually turn so they can account for noise.
