Machine damaging / catching items

Hi everyone,

We are having an issue with our Hoover VT815D22X. Sometimes clothing is coming out with damage (fraying, tearing, holes), plus smaller items such as cloths are being pulled into the drum body around the heating element and drain motor and causing drainage issues.

I feel that things might be getting caught between the inner drum and outer drum near the door and either being sucked through or staying caught and getting the damage from friction as the drum turns.

It is definitely not an issue of overloading, and the inner drum seems to be seated properly and tight enough (I can't feel any play so I don't think it's the bearings going). I can't find any sharp edges on the paddles or anything.

Anyone have any ideas on this? We've lost quite a number of items at this point!

Hello Rob. This seems to be quite a common problem these days. In my experience, it is a relatively new problem. I can honestly say I can't remember anyone complaining that their washing machine was causing holes in their clothes in the 70s 80s 90s or even the 2000s.

It sounds like you've checked the basics, and it doesn't sound like there's anything major or obvious that fault. Launch a getting trapped between the revolving drum and the back of the door seal is a very old issue. Manufacturers always blame overloading. But my experience is that most people if anything under load, although I'm pretty sure plenty of people do overload their washing machine (How to load a washing machine drum effectively

The best advice I can give is to find the time to carefully read my following article and all of the comments, which may take a while. However, it should cover every possible cause, and contains a lot of other people's experience of the issue - getting holes in clothes after washing

@RobSullUK - have you got a general Idea of what washing garments go into the washing machine and what comes out at the end? had anything got caught between the metal drum and plastic outer tub it is highly unlikely I think that anything caught between inner and outer drum will hardly make its way back into the drum then after that and i predict will just stay trapped between inner and outer drum.

The clothing that is coming out frayed and holes in it - is it sturdy cotton garments like jeans and cotton shirts or are you talking delicates like silk / wool / thin cotton ?
