Rubber fire after replacing door seal
I replaced the door seal today on my indesit whirlpool washing machine. I used some washing up liquid on the seal when installing.
When I started the machine on a cycle it started making a noise when the drum turned but I thought this was just some bedding in. As it got to the spin cycle it started making a really bad noise.
When I had a look there was an awful smell of rubber burning and smoke coming out of the detergent drawer. I managed to stop it before it actually caught fire, but there was a log more smoke inside the drum when I opened the door.
Now I can't move the drum by hand so I'm not sure if I've installed the seal incorrectly or it's a bad spare part. Any ideas?
Update
I managed to get the drum to spin by hand after adding some more washing up liquid but the rotation is nowhere near smooth

Hi. It sounds like either it’s the wrong door seal or fitted incorrectly. It’s hard to imagine how one could be fitted so badly that it cause the drum to seize up though.
I would take it back off and make sure the drum turns freely without it. Then refit it. Make sure the drain holes are at 6 o’clock. I wouldn’t use any form of lubricant because that can allow the seal to slip off its fixings, especially when clamps are tightened up.
Also double check that the door seal is definitely for your model. And work out where it was catching.
