Should I do a service wash on a new washing machine?

Just ordered an BEKO - WME8227 8kg machine.

Should you do a cleaning wash, before you start putting cloths in a new washing machine to remove any dirt/grease ect.

I was thinking of running the longest and hottest cotton wash to check the heating element and basically check everything is working fine, but 2-3 hours is a long wash.

Thanks

John.

Hello John. The instruction book should advise if they think that's necessary, and if so which wash to use. They normally used to advise a wash with no laundry in before using but I'm not sure if they bother any more. I would personally think a 60 degree wash with detergent and no laundry in would be more than enough to make sure its clean inside, and most probably even just a 40 degree, or even a quick wash should suffice.

This relevant article describes the causes of washing machine smells which can be prevented by doing regular hot washes (as described).
