Can anyone help me - all the option lights bar one will not go out even thought the machine is switched off. I have never used any of the options before.

Hotpoint (and Indesit) washing machines can go completely dead, with no error code displayed and lights on if there is a problem with the door lock, motor, heater or some of the connections. Even an open circuit inlet valve can stop the machine with no error code. The fault could even be down to a faulty main pcb.I would get an engineer in.
