Hole In Door Seal
While looking at the washer I noticed that there is a small hole (like a tear) in the rubber door seal. Should this be cause for concern?

With a small hole or tear, if the rest of the door seal is in very good condition, I've occasionally done succesful repairs using a bicycle repair kit. I peel away the door seal from the washing machine casing and do the repair on the outside of the door seal where it won't be subjected to the water. Fixing a patch on the inside usually results in them coming off eventually.
However, if the washing machine is young (and expected to last a fair bit longer) or the rest of the door seal isn't so good it would be better to replace the door seal.

Well, fingers crossed it all looks to have gone ok. The door seal has been replaced. We had some fun getting the door seal off, and even more fun fitting the door attachment so that the door would actually close, but all seems to be running fine now.
Thanks so much for your help, you've saved us buying a new washer!
