As far as I can see drum bearings are not available for the wmf740p, only the complete outer tub assembly with the drum and bearings already in place. It would be cheaper and much easier to let Hotpoint fit them for you if the machine is within the 5 year parts guarantee. Even if not they still have fixed price repairs and it may work out no more expensive or even cheaper to let them fit the parts for just the labour charge.

I personally would not advise tackling drum bearing replacement on a Hotpoint washing machine unless you are an experienced engineer or mechanic, or maybe a very determined DIYer. It would need a total strip down and more often than not you need to replace the back half of the tub. With some models of Hotpoint they have even welded the tub together so it cannot be stripped down at all. If the machine is less than 5 years old you can get Hotpoint to do it for the labour charge only or if it's even younger maybe even consider claiming it hasn't lasted a reasonable time from the retailer under the sale of Goods Act.

looked at mechine after looking at the noisy washing mechine bit took off the belt and when turning the drum there is a grinding like a rumble from the back of the drum (i did take the top and back panel off at the time so am sure of the noise ps motor turns fine no noise there

any one changed one before it looks a bit of a pain as the back panel does not show the bearing its self do you need to take the drum right out or just rock the drum forward and do the job from there

any place to get the part cheap

thanks angel

hi'

it sounds like to me' that it could be one of the retaining springs that hold the drum in place' has come off or snapped all together'

when this happens the washing machine sounds like you have a large brick inside the drum' hell of a noise.

what can cause this to happen is looking down into the machine from the to' you normaly will see a cross member from one side of the machine to the other' well the springs are attached to this cross member' and over time you will proberly find one of the springs in time tearing through this cross member thus causing your machine to make a noise.

i have cured this myself by cutting a piece of steel and drilling the holes for the spring fittings' thus never ever having this problem again.

any more info pop a reply on the board and ill try to be of help.

good luck
