AI-generated from this discussion
This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Bosch Exel washing machine leaking from rear, source not identified
- The problem
- The Bosch Exel washing machine was reported to be leaking heavily from the back. Water was seen running down the back of the large cast alloy belt drive area behind the inspection panel. Under the top cover no leaking hoses were visible. Two loose screws securing the dispenser were found and refitted, which stopped a separate knocking noise, but no clear link to the water leak was confirmed.
- Likely cause
- The leak source was not identified. The accepted advice was that the cause cannot be determined without locating the exact point of leakage or visible trail marks. It was only suggested that, if the loose dispenser fixing had caused the leak, there should be clear signs of wear or something loose.
- What fixed it
- Locate the exact source of the leak before attempting a repair, using visible water trails or signs of wear/looseness as evidence. The discussion did not confirm any specific repair for the leak.
- Checks to try
- Inspected behind the rear inspection panel
- Observed water running down the back of the large cast alloy belt drive
- Removed the top cover and checked for leaking pipes
- Found and refitted two screws securing the dispenser
- Noted that refitting the screws stopped the knocking noise
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Two dispenser retaining screws
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Sorry Stuey, without knowing where the leak is actually coming from no one can say. With leaks you have to find exactly where it's coming from or see the evidence maybe from trail marks. If it is the cause of the leak you should be able to see where something has worn away or come loose.
