Hi,

I have read lots on the DIY repair instructions already and it has been extremely helpful - easy to read and easy to follow ! But................................

My machine is 5 years old this month. I dont know if that is old for a washing machine ? It has been heavily used.

Last Friday, I put a couple of towels and bathroom mats in, and put it on a quick wash. It seemed to wash ok, but decided to not fully spin/drain.

I found this website and followed the instructions regarding an obstruction or blockage. I drained the machine manually, checked the connecting hose, although could'nt manage to detach it from the machine as I would need to take the whole back off... ?

Managed to get the machine to spin, whilst the hose was in a bucket.

I have since, checked all of the pipes under the sink, which i have now ALL cleaned out (gunkey and disgusting).

Cleaned out the filter, which had buttons, lego and wool in !

Re-attached all pipes and put on a wash, all okay until the spin again. It starts to turn but just cant seem to get going. It does sound noisier than usual.

Took all the soggy washing out, tried to spin it empty, still wouldnt spin..........

Any ideas on what to try next or am I wasting my time with it ?

Thanks for any input - very much appreciated

It isn't clear from your post whether the water is now draining but the washer just isn't going into a fast spin, or whether the machine is the same as it was before and not emptying the water.

If it's not draining all the water out there may still be an obstruction in the system especially if you laid the machine down as obstructions can get disturbed and find their way into the pump when the machine is moved around during repairs.

You need to drain it manually again, and re-check for obstructions. If the pump is definitely running on spin but not emptying fast enough or at all then there must be a blockage somewher in the system as described in my troubleshooting guide. The only other alternative is that the pump is somehow faulty and sounds like it's running ok but maybe the impellor has come loose or off and therefore not pumping water.

At 13 years old I'd check the carbon brushes in the motor Chris11.

Mine is a Hoover HNT 5146 Nextra one too exactly doing the same thing you said above, by reading your thread, although pretty much everyone told me to buy a new one as opposed to calling a service man to come and repair it, just wanted another opinion and it seems like I need to go to Currys or Commet too by the sound of it.

Could you tell me what make you bought this time around? Mine has to be a toploader as we can only put the washing machine under the stair case....

Hi,

Tried to drain it manually this morning into a bucket, but nothing would come out, so drained it through the filter.

Managed to lie the machine on its back and remove the water outlet/drain hose.

Nothing would pass through the hose, so popped to Comet and bought a new one.

Fixed !

Has now down two washes fine.

Thanks very much for your input.

If it hasn't gone into a spin there will be some water still in the machine, especially if the laundry is something that soaks a lot of water up. So not doing a spin can leave some water in the machine and doesn't necessariy mean the pump isn't working or is blocked. Conversely, if the pump is partially blocked then it can prevent a spin.

I have advise about pumps on Washerhelp

The water won't pump out of washing machine

Hi,

It has drained partially. Although there is still water visible in the drum.

Sorry to be ignorant, but where is the pump ? And where is the impellor ?

Thanks
