Indesit Wil 82 Overheated

Hi Andy thanks for the quick reply.

The red door light does not flash when in a cycle - its solid on. It flashers again once a cycle is finished and the door can be opened.

Can i test the NTC temperature sensor? Is there other things I do do to work this out?

It should flash when it detects the fault so that's what I would expect. When it stops half way through a cycle count the flashes. If it's a continuous flash and not pausing then it's not showing an error code. If some option lights light up they will be giving the error code instead. If so you need to report the number of the LEDs lit up such as 1 and 3, or 2 and 4 as described here - http://www.whitegoodshelp.co.uk/washing-machine-lights-flashing/

When it stops it just keeps flashing red non stop. There are no other lights on or flashing......

That's weird. They should all indicate an error code either by a flashing light in a cycle of up to about 15 flashes, lighting specific option lights or in the case of washers with digital displays showing an actual code. The fact that it stops, and starts to pump water out and take in cold water shows it's detected overheating. Check the NTC for a loose wire or connection. They should have a resistance which changes at different temperatures but I don;t have the specific resistances. It might be worth trying changing it as they are easy to replace and relatively cheap, it should be right near the heater or pushes inside the heater and you can see pics and buy Indesit NTCs here-

All connections seem to be fine. The element has a resistance of 31 ohm. How to you check the resistance of NTC as there is not bare metal near? Do you need to remove this?

The NTC has two connections and you measure across the pins. The video's not very informative to be honest because there's no sound and no indication what it's on about. It's entitled "how to repair Indesit washing machine that is flashing" but an Indesit washing machine which is flashing can have dozens of different faults and cures. If it means one that's flashing continuously without indicating an error code then possibly the fault is somewhere on the main PCB but it's all pretty vague. The video only shows one green light lit whereas you are reporting a continuously flashing red door light.

I would advise getting an engineer in to be frank. DIY repairs are great if you have specific faults with little doubt as to the cause and the cure, otherwise you can just end up wasting hours researching and trying things, wasting money on unnecessary parts and it dragging on for a long time.

Hi Andy, I am still at it. I have removed the NTC and it has a resistance. I placed in warm water the resistance decreases - so I am happy that works. I know you have said get an engineer in. The thing is i am in engineer but not familiar with washing machines but loving the learning experience and hopefully be able to clean my cloths again.

Can i ask what other things are worth checking please?

Make sure there isn't a dodgy connection on the NTC and that continuity runs from the connectors back to the main PCB. If ok you have to start swapping parts starting with a new NTC. You could try sending your pcb to QER repairs to get it checked. Let us know how you get on
