Load Size Selector Broken

sooo.... the turning dial on my washer cracked one day, and ended up basically breaking up bad enough so the whole entire knob / dial piece has came off.... leaving the metal rod exposed.....The rod will not budge or turn no matter what i use for leverage. So my question is , without new parts, is there anyway I can continue to use the machine (i.e. select a load size) without a replacement knob.

It sounds like the dial broke because the control has seized up or somehow jammed, if so that would need replacing too.

Chances are it would break inside but if it's seized up there's not much to lose.
