Bosch Wlk 2401cu Door Not Releasing

My washer stops its cycle at 1 minute left with door locked. Banging on the panel around the door jumps the cycle to CL and the door opens. Its getting harder and harder to open however. Any Suggestions as what might be wrong and how to access the part for repair?

Solution Summary

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Bosch Wlk 2401cu door stays locked at 1 minute and only releases after knocking panel

The problem
Bosch Wlk 2401cu washing machine was stopping with 1 minute remaining and keeping the door locked. Knocking the panel around the door made the display move to CL and the door then opened, but the release was becoming progressively more difficult.
Likely cause
Most strongly supported diagnosis is a sticking or faulty door interlock. A less likely possibility mentioned was a blockage in any pressure-sensing tube/chamber linked to the interlock, but this was considered less consistent with the door releasing after a knock.
What fixed it
Recommended action was to inspect and likely replace the door interlock. Access was said to be usually via peeling the door seal back from the door frame. The exact repair was not confirmed in the discussion.
Checks to try
  • Observed that the cycle stopped at 1 minute left with the door locked
  • Knocking the panel near the door caused the machine to change to CL and release the door
  • Considered whether the interlock mechanism was sticking
  • Considered, if fitted, whether a pressure tube/chamber to the interlock could be blocked
Parts or tools mentioned
  • door interlock

Safety: The machine must be unplugged before accessing the door interlock. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

The washing machine usually just waits for a bi-metal strip inside the door interlock to cool down. When it does, the door locking mechanism releases and the light goes out. It sounds like this mechanism is sticking, although I have not had this problem personally on a Bosch. I couldn't guarantee it, but my guess is a faulty door interlock, which should be easy to get to (usually unpeeling the door seal from the door frame) The washing machine must be unplugged though as the door interlock usually has mains power to it.Some door interlocks also have a plastic or rubber tube connected to them which goes down to a plastic pressure chamber bottle attached to the tub. This allows it to sense whether the water has all gone (using air pressure) before allowing the door to open. If fitted, then potentially, a blockage in this system may cause the door not to open too but I wouldn't expect a knock to release it if that was the case.
