Hi guys bought a hoover wmh 168 d from appliance universe online. Had problems with it from day one ! Would not stop in one place no matter how i tried to level it, even used the rubber feet ! it dances all over the place which is a known fact on this model (been told it needs a software update). Now it only allows you to do one cycle programme no matter where the dial is, it just does the one wash (2hrs45mins). Ok so it may need a software update by an engineer (at a cost) i was wondering could i download the software an get a cable an do this upgrade myself ?. What cable would i need ?

cheers Jon

If it needs a software update to fix an out of balance problem why are you having to pay for it? Surely it should be free? How old is the machine?

Under the sale of goods act you have up to 5 or 6 years to claim if an appliance was sold with an inherent fault and was faulty when sold but only now come to light. However, if the manufacturer is not willing to help you'd have to fight this out with whoever you bought it from as only the retailer has responsibility.

The manufacturer gives their guarantee, which they must honour, but after the guarantee has run out they are likely to want to charge for any repairs. Your rights are going to be dependent on whether there is a fault on your machine, that needs a software update to fix it or not. If so, I can't see how it's different to if they've had to modify a part after realising it had inherent issues and you should be able to say the machine had this design fault when sold. However, if the update just offers some improvements and isn't actually required then it might be different.

If the fault is not related to an update though and a different fualt has caused the latest symptoms it would depend on what the issue is as to whether it's just one of those things or not.
