Lg Washing Machine Rattling Noise When Washing

Hi, I'm hoping someone can shed a degree of light on what a noise might be - I'm planning on calling someone out over the next few days but thought I'd check to see if it was something common with LG Washing Machine and if there is anything I can check.

Many thanks for having a listen!

The noise occurs mostly near the start of the cycle and towards the end, always when the drum is turning/washing. However, there are also times when the drum is turning but there is NO noise - both clockwise and anti-clockwise. There is no extra noise when the machine is on the spin cycle. The machine is a around 6 years old now.

I've checked the common things, like the drain. I've had the back cover of the machine off and can't see anything obviously wrong.

Have posted this video showing whats going on:

All feedback greatly appreciated.

It sounds dreadful, like there is something seriously wrong with the drum, but it makes no sense for such a noise to disappear. It should make the noise all the time the drum turns and if it was a problem with the drum or the bearings it should be really noisy on spin. A noise that happens only on wash could be coming from a wash circulation pump. Some washers have a second pump that recirculates the water in the drum and pumps it back into the drum on top of the laundry so the machine can wash in less water.

My first check would be to just open the door and spin the drum by hand, if the noise is present it has to be a problem with the drum and or drum bearings which is pretty serious. The noise sounds more like something stuck in the drum or a pump, which could explain the noise coming and going if the obstruction moves around. Use my causes of noisy washing machine guide to try and work out what is causing it by process of elimination.

Many thanks for your reply.

I had read something about a pump that circulates water through 'some' of the cycles and not others - which seems to tie with the randomness of the noise. Either that or like you say an obstruction somewhere.

Listening to the noise again it appears that the noise is coming from the bottom of the machine on the right hand side near the front. I've opened the door and spun the drum by hand, and I can't hear any strange noises at all. There's a little movement in the drum but it seems ok.

Thanks again, will let you know how it goes )
