LG FH4U2VCN2 - New washing machine making noise as drum spins to full rpm
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but my brand new LG FH4U2VCN2 washing machine makes a squeaking/scraping noise as the drum starts to spin then stops as the rpm continue to climb. The noise wasn't there when it done it's initial empty wash but started happening when a towel was put in and is now audible when empty. There's no visible metal or plastic stuck in the drum and no excess play in the drum.

LG FH4U2VCN2 squeaking/scraping noise as spin starts
- The problem
- A new LG FH4U2VCN2 washing machine made a squeaking/scraping noise as the drum began to spin. The noise stopped as the spin speed increased. It was not heard on the initial empty wash, started with a towel load, and later became audible when empty as well. The user reported no visible item caught in the drum and no excess drum play.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply said this type of noise at the start of spin is often caused by a suspension problem. This was suggested as a probable cause, not a confirmed fault.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to disconnect the machine from the mains, remove the lid, and manually shake and swing the drum back and forth and side to side to try to reproduce the noise and locate its source. No completed repair or confirmed defective part was documented.
- Checks to try
- No visible metal or plastic stuck in the drum
- No excess play in the drum
- Advised to disconnect from mains, remove the lid, and shake/swing the drum by hand to see if the noise can be reproduced
Safety: Disconnect the appliance from the mains before removing the lid or carrying out checks. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Sorry I thought I'd already replied to this but might have mixed it up with a similar issue. Check this out to see if your problem is similar - squeaking noise on spin. A noise like this when the machine is starting to spin is often caused by suspension problems. Check to see if you can replicate the noise by disconnecting washing machine from mains and taking the lid off. Shake and swing the drum back and forth and from side to side by hand to see if it makes the noise. If it does it should be a matter of trying to locate where it's coming from.
