Hi, I have a LG WM1437BFG washing machine.
I first started hearing a grinding noise few weeks ago, but not on every wash. It was like a clutch mechanism sticking. Along with this I was getting an awful smell in the drum, and on washed clothes. Few days ago machine stopped mid cycle with error message stating 'water not draining' which it hadn't. Did a little research and found that the water drain pump is common problem. My machine has two pumps the same on each side of the filter. Had the option to either replace whole assemble, or individual pumps. So I got a multimeter, tested both pumps and found one was at issue. I also removed the impeller to find both pumps clogged with a clay like substance which I quickly realised was where the awful smell was coming from. So I cleaned the good pumps I was to reuse and ordered a new genuine pump from espares.com.
I fitted everything today, powered up, put on a 'Rinse & Spin' cycle and hoped for the best. Washing machine filled with water, first time pump switched on I heard the same sticky clutch like noise, but has not heard it since on any tests I've done. Seems to drain and fill, drain and fill, drain and fill etc. Cycle takes 23mins. At 19mins machine still working, but seems to say on 19mins for approx 5mins. Then as countdown continues, it getting to 14mins left and display reads 'Spinning'. At this point machine is full of water, a humming noise, but no spinning or draining. Its trying to do something, but cant. If I leave machine I get the same not draining message as before. If I switch it off and on again, and set a cycle to start again, the water drains and the whole thing starts over again.
Its is a direct drive machine. The drum rotates why rinsing and i can hear it draining at the rinsing stage. But once the spinning cycle starts it just does nothing. Is this still pump related or is it something to do with the motor.

Which pump did you replace? One is usually a recycling pump that recycles water back into the drum on wash, and the other is the main drain pump. If it isn't draining the water out it's the drain pump that is suspect not the recirculation pump.
