Washing machine loud when spinning, smell of burned rubber
Hello. My washing machine is about 3 years old and have been making a lot of noise when spinning for the last few weeks. During the last wash it also smelled of burned rubber and I found bits of rubber on my washing and by the seal where water drains but I don't think it came from the door seal. What could be the problem. Is it something easy/ worth repairing ?

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Burnt rubber smell and loud spinning likely from drum rubbing door seal
- The problem
- A washing machine about three years old had become very noisy on spin over several weeks. On the last wash there was a burnt rubber smell, with small bits of rubber found on the washing and near the seal by the drain area. The poster did not think the rubber came from the visible front of the door seal.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply says the most likely cause is the spinning drum catching and rubbing on the door seal, producing the smell and rubber debris.
- What fixed it
- Inspect the back of the door seal carefully all the way around where it sits close to the drum, and rotate the drum by hand to check whether it is catching. The thread does not confirm the exact repair carried out, only the likely diagnosis.
- Checks to try
- Examine the back of the door seal all the way around the drum
- Spin the drum hard by hand to check whether it catches
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

A burnt rubber smell and small bits of rubber in the laundry are usually caused by the spinning drum catching on the door seal. Examine the back of the door seal close to the drum very carefully all the way around the drum. Also spin the drum hard by hand, can you really catching?
