Differing Spin Speeds Across Models?

I find it strange why on lower models, the maximum spin speeds on certain programs are lower than on higher models,

*even though the lower models can accomodate that spin speed*.

e.g. all examples below refer to potential 1200rpm which all machines can spin at

Premier 520 top spin speed is 1200rpm, W3240 is 1400rpm and W3922 is 1600rpm

Program..................Premier 520......|.....W3240....|.....W3922........

Minimum Iron..............900rpm...............1200rpm.........1200rpm..........

Automatic....................900rpm................900rpm...........1200rpm..........

Yes you would expect all of a manufacturer's washing machines to spin at the same speed for the same type of laundry on the same wash programmes. The minimum iron setting won't utilise the top spin on "minimum iron" because this laundry is susceptable to creasing. The difference in spin speeds on the automatic setting is more unexpected though. I initially suspected the difference could be accounted for by the more expensive Miele models having a larger drum and in particular the Honeycomb drum that is more gentle on the laundry allowing for faster spin. However, the W3240 and W3922 both have a 6Kg drum and both have the Honeycomb drum yet the automatic programme spins slower on the W3240.

I know the W980 is no longer made , mines getting on for 11 year old. I think the 1600 spin is great andwould go for the same or higher in the future. leaves the 1200 spin on partners zanussi standing. Anybody got one of the 1800 HC models ?

Very strange. I can't think of a logical reason for this.

Max spin speed .....1200rpm.............1400rpm.........1600rpm.........1600rpm

Drum........................5kg.....................6kg H/C...........6kg H/C...........6kg H/C

Minimum Iron........900rpm...............1200rpm.........1200rpm...........1200rpm

Automatic..............900rpm................900rpm...........900rpm............1200rpm
