Hoover Electron 1100 A3260 Not Filling With Water
I have an old Hoover washing machine (1983) which has given stirling service with only a few minor DIY repairs. However, it has stopped filling with water. At start of any cycle requiring water, the 'on light' comes on but the timer switch fails to automatically advance. If manually advanced past any point where water should enter, the programme continues OK (ie motor runs, drum spins). At the end of cylces F and L the timer does advance automatically. Evidently, the water fill valves are no longer getting a signal to open. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Is the water pump running at all? On some of these washing machines, if the pump goes open circuit or the neutral wire becomes detached or broken, then the water valves cease to work as they share the pumps neutral return.

Many thanks, much appreciated.
Note: If the same fault occurs, but the water pump does run when you try the washing machine on spin, then the fault will have a different cause - Related link: Washing machine won't fill with water (or no water goes into washing machine)

You were absolutely spot on. The pump neutral end winding, which showed signs of overheating, was broken but after re-soldering it's cured the fault. The machine has run through a wash cycle correctly. Thanks very much for the benefit of your knowledge and experience which directed me to the cause of my fault. I will be making a donation via your 'thanks' link as you have saved me time and unnecessary expense. Please carry on running this worthwhile website.
