Hoover Softwave Washer (1200 Ac330) Does Not Fill Or Switch On
Hi, my washing machine completed a full wash cycle with no problem, but then I loaded the machine up again and nothing this time - no water filling & no drum turning, however by turning the program selector to different positions, the normal timer ticking noise starts and the drum starts to turn (but no water filling). I have checked the water supply & the 2 filters which are ok. Is there anything else I can do to diagnose this fault? Any help would be appreciated.

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Hoover Softwave 1200 AC330 would not fill; failed pump found
- The problem
- After completing one wash normally, the Hoover Softwave Washer 1200 Ac330 would not fill with water on the next load and would not start a normal cycle. Turning the programme selector produced the usual timer ticking and the drum would turn, but no water entered the machine. The water supply and the two filters had already been checked and were reported as OK.
- Likely cause
- The accepted diagnosis was an electrically failed drain pump, specifically an open-circuit pump or broken neutral path through the pump. In this wiring arrangement, a pump electrical failure can stop the water valves from operating.
- What fixed it
- The recommended check was to isolate the appliance from the mains and test whether the pump was open circuit or had a broken/disconnected neutral wire. The original poster then removed the pump cover, found the pump windings on the negative side burnt out, replaced the pump, and confirmed normal operation was restored.
- Checks to try
- Water supply checked
- Two filters checked
- Programme selector positions tested; timer ticking and drum turning observed
- Pump inspected and burnt-out windings found
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Replacement pump
Safety: Disconnect from mains electricity before checking the pump or wiring. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Disconnect from mains electricity. Check the pump isn't open circuit, or that the neutral wire from the pump isn't broken or disconnected. Hoover washing machines are usually wired so that if the pump fails (electrically not mechanically) the water valves wont work because the neutral return for the valves passes through the pump.

Thanks for the advice, removed the cover on the pump & found the windings (negative side) had burnt out. Replaced the pump & all is working fine now.
A washing machine that does not fill or switch on is quite a general fault description and could be caused by many things. Glad to have found it straight away.
