Candy Alise Smart Touch Washer Dryer not Spinning with Load
Hi,
My Candy Alise washer dryer has stopped spinning. It works fine when empty and have tried with a couple of light dry items and still fine. When I add anything wet and with weight it will not go into spin mode. Does anybody have a clue as to what might be happening. There are no error codes btw.

Candy Alise Smart Touch washer dryer will not spin when wet load is added
- The problem
- The appliance spins normally when empty and also with a couple of light dry items, but when wet items add weight it will not enter spin. No error codes were reported.
- Likely cause
- The strongest supported explanation in the discussion is load imbalance, especially if only a few items are being washed or heavier items such as cottons or jeans are in a large drum. Other possible causes mentioned were worn motor carbon brushes, a very slack drive belt, a PCB fault, or an unusual poor motor connection, but these were not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Check whether the issue only happens with small or uneven loads, as the machine may be refusing to spin because it cannot balance the laundry. If the fault also occurs with a normal balanced load, the suggested areas for diagnosis were the motor carbon brushes, drive belt, PCB and motor wiring connections. The exact repair was not confirmed in the thread.
- Checks to try
- Confirmed it spins when empty
- Confirmed it spins with a couple of light dry items
- Confirmed it will not go into spin with wet items adding weight
- No error codes reported
- Consider whether the load is too small or unbalanced
- Inspect whether the drive belt is slipping
- Listen for crackling/sparking-type noise that could suggest worn carbon brushes
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Motor carbon brushes
- Drive belt
- PCB
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hello Gareth. If a motor struggles to turn with a weight of laundry inside the drum it can be caused if the carbon brushes are worn down and hardly making contact. This would normally result in hearing some sort of greeting, crackling sound as it causes the carbon brushes to sparking flash. Not all modern washing machines have carbon brushes fitted though these days.
Another possible cause, although much rarer, is if the drive belt is very slack. This would normally cause the motor to turn at its normal speed but just slip inside the drive belt. It should be fairly obvious looking at the motor, drive belt and drum as they turn.
This fault can also be caused by a fault in the PCB somewhere, possibly a component fault. That is much harder to diagnose and potentially expensive to replace the PCB as domestic appliance whitegoodshelp is unused do not repair PCBs. Finally could because by a poor connection nor to the motor somewhere but again, that is quite unusual.
Having said all that, if you are only putting in a few items, and particularly one or more of those items are cotton or jeans, and especially with a large drum capacity, it could be that it cannot balance the laundry and therefore refuses to spin. As described here - wont spin with just one item inside or a small load
