Washer Has Stopped Spinning Fast
For some unknown reason my 2 year old washing machine has stopped spinning fast, consequently the clothes are soaking wet at the end. I've put the machine on the final part of the programme to see what happens and however big or small the load, the washer fails to reach the top spin speed. The machine starts to spin, then it sounds likes it's 'reving up' to a faster speed, but it can't quite make it. It does this several times and then just gives up.
Grateful for any advice

Does the fault still occur when there is no washing in? I mention this because with most machines these days, if they can't balance a load they refuse to spin and just go to the end of the wash without a fast spin - How do I avoid out of balanced loads in my washing machine?

Good news
Some other causes cause of this fault can be worn carbon brushes (although you would normally hear a grating or crackling noise when the motor turns), a faulty module (PCB) or program control timer. Never speculatively replace expensive parts because you guess it might be faulty.

I put the washing machine on an empty spin as suggested. This time it managed to reach max spin speed. I can only assume that the machine must have been poorly balanced.
Thanks for all your advice, and for saving me a hefty service charge.
