Digital Display Jumps In Hoover Washing Machine
Hi, I have a Hoover OPH 716 DF- Problem, when we turn the programme selector the digital display jumps all over the place, it settles on the programme above or below the one we want, desperation makes us tap the area around the selector where eventually it settles on the chosen programme, is this a new display? (Quoted £100-ish) or is there an easy fix for this?
Best Regards.
Solution Summary
AI-generated from this discussion
This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Hoover OPH 716 DF programme selector causes erratic display changes
- The problem
- On a Hoover OPH 716 DF washing machine, turning the programme selector makes the digital display jump randomly between programmes. The selected programme may only settle after tapping around the selector area several times.
- Likely cause
- Most strongly supported diagnosis was a fault on the control/display PCB or an issue with the selector dial not properly activating the display. The exact failed part was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- No documented repair was confirmed. The discussion only suggested removing the lid to inspect, but no specific fix was identified. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.
- Checks to try
- Confirmed the fault was very random rather than consistently selecting the programme above or below
- Observed that tapping around the selector area could eventually make the chosen programme settle
- Suggested taking the lid off for a visual look
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Strange fault. Are you able to get the right programme by deliberately choosing the one above or below what you want or is it way too random?

Apologies for late reply, yes very random, we turn the knob to the programme the reading jumps all over the place, but a good few taps and some patience it settles into the right one....
It sounds likely to be a fault on the control display pcb or the selector dial not properly activating the display somehow. Can't really suggest anything to try

Thanks for your reply Andy, is it easy to remove the cover and have a look or is it a professional job?
You can always take the lid off and have a look though it's hard to think of much you can do
