Hotpoint Wma62 Door Lock Flashing After Motor Replacement

Hi all I replaced my Washing Machine motor the other day after my wife had commented that it was very hard to turn the drum by hand after a wash.

For a few months now the motor had been making alot of noise on full spin and i knew the bearings were on their way out, When i removed the motor it is very hard to move the shaft.

When i had replaced the motor and put everything together, the Door lock Light is flashing and locks straight away. I am able to select a wash program, when I click start nothing happens Just a flashing door lock and 5 Bleeps.

As soon as the mains is connected the door locks and will not unlock until mains is unplugged.

I fitted a New Door lock No change.

As the original motor was working prior to being replaced i put it back in to check if i had been supplied a duff motor, The door lock is still flashing.

How can I find out what is causing the problem?

It seems pretty likely that something's happened during the repair. Some Hotpoint washing machines will allow the door to lock, but will otherwise not function at all with some faults on the motor. Therefore as you've already tried the original motor I would very carefully check all of the pins and connections in the motor plug and the wires going back to the pcb. Look for pins pushed back or bent in the motor plug connector, worn or broken connections where the wires go into the plug, and broken wires anywhere else in the motor plug harness.

Just read this, and although late, it might be worth a mention. I have a hotpoint wm62, the older type with no flashing lights or beeping. My motor finally caved in 2 years ago and I decided to invest in a replacement. When the motor arrived, it was a genuine part but there was a warning leaflet about the wiring saying that it had all changed since my machine was made. If I plugged the connector as is, into the motor, the wiring would have been all back to front. It came with a new connector with trimmed wires and I had to basically remove the old connector and rewire it. It took a while to figure out which wire was which, but got there in the end and it still works great. I dread to think what would have happened if I put the old connector straight in.

Was confused myself on replacing motor would cause this problem, Just wanted to make sure there was not an obvious fix or that I had overlooked something.

The machine is something like 12yrs old so has served us well, The only other possible cause could of been me. The machine is kept in the Garage and is up on blocks (due to water getting into garage when it rains). When I moved it to do work it has to drop down off the blocks and the drum does make contact with the Circuit Board if not gentle.

I was assuming the motor was ok because you'd tried the old one which we know worked ok (albeit not very well). The thing that sounds most logical is a fault on the connectors and wiring which would result in the exact same thing (an open circuit on the motor). If you have checked continuity from the pcb or module with the motor plugged in that would show that the connections inside the motor plug were connected OK and there is no break inside any of the wires leading to the motor.

So if there is no connection fault in the motor circuit, which can cause the door lock to lock but the machine wont run on some Hotpoint machines it's hard to thing what else related to you replacing the motor could have cause it other than if by any chance the replacement motor was somehow faulty or wired differently and blew something in the pcb?

Many Thanks for the reply, Just rechecked all connections. Used a Multi Meter on motor pins and on the connector at the PCB all readings are about the same.

Pins 1-2 137Ω (sensor?)

Pins 3-4 3.1Ω

Pins 5-6 3.9Ω

Pins 7-4 1.5Ω

Good connection on the Earth from motor to body

Both the new and old motor had reading approximately the same.

I'm struggling to think of any other checks i can do but please advise.
