Hello,

I have a Hotpoint washing machine that was displaying a F06 error. The door woukd not unlock and i had to use the manual pull cable to open the door

I replaced the door interlock but now when I try to start a cycle, a red padlock icon displays and it won't start.

As far as I can tell, this means that it won't lock, so wont start the cycle.

Does anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Thanks

Solution Summary

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Hotpoint washing machine shows F06, door was jammed and then padlock icon flashes after interlock replacement

The problem
A Hotpoint washing machine originally displayed F06 and the door would not unlock, requiring the manual release cable. After the door interlock was replaced, the machine would not start a cycle. A red padlock icon flashed and the machine beeped, while the door could still be opened.
Likely cause
The discussion most strongly supports that the machine was still not recognising the door as properly locked or closed after the interlock replacement. Suggested reasons were incorrect fitting of the new door lock, a problem with the door latch aligning with the lock, or possibly the child lock being enabled. An exact fault was not confirmed.
What fixed it
Recommended checks were to confirm what the padlock icon meant in the user instructions, check whether child lock was enabled, and inspect whether the replacement interlock was fitted correctly and whether the door latch was entering and operating the lock properly. The exact repair was not confirmed in the thread.
Checks to try
  • Observed F06 error before repair
  • Door had to be opened using the manual pull cable
  • After replacing the door interlock, the machine beeped and a red padlock icon flashed
  • Door remained physically unlocked and could be opened
  • Suggested check for child lock being enabled
  • Suggested check that the replacement interlock was fitted correctly
  • Suggested check that the door latch mechanism was operating and aligning properly with the lock
Parts or tools mentioned
  • door interlock

Hi. Is the padlock shown as open or locked? If it's indicating the door won't lock I'd expect it to show an unlocked icon.

Hi, It's just an basic icon of a padlock (in locked position). The machine beeps and the icon flashes red on the screen.

The door is unlocked as I can open it.

Does the door lock have a thin rubber or plastic tube connected to it? If so it could use it to detect water in the drum and refuse to let the door open. Investigate the other end of that tub for blockages if so.

Otherwise, I have error codes for about 8 different series of Hotpoint washing ma hinds but none of them use F06. Bizarrely they all jump from F05 to FO7. However, my error code list is at least 6 or 7 years out of date.

The only thing I can suggest if there's no air pressure tubing on the door lock is that a locked padlock icon means the door is locked. Or it thinks it's locked. Check the instruction manual in case they couldn't be bothered to use a locked padlock and an unlocked one.

If the padlock icon IS indicating the door is not closed, you need to look at if the lock is fitted correctly, and check the door latch mechanism is working properly and is fitting inside the door lock properly in order to activate it.

Just check that the 'Child Lock' is not enabled @Steven1986 (normally enabled by pressing 2 buttons together) because if child lock is on then it stops all other operation of the machine by buttons and the icon can flash to tell you child lock is on
