Hotpoint BWD129 door light flashing with no error lights

Hi,

I have a BWD129 and the door lock light is flashing, the machine won't start.

There are no other lights flashing. I've checked the drainage, emptied out the filter (nothing in it) but can't get the machine to start.

As soon as I switch the machine on, the light flashes. Closing the door the latch is secure and feels right. But pressing start, the lock light just flashes at me. I can select options like dry, quick wash, etc etc, but it just won't start the program. The lock light just blinks back at me (frustratingly).

I had a similar issue before and blowing down the drainage pipe with the filter out seemed to resolve the problem, but this time that's not fixing it.

Any suggestions?

Hotpoint BWD129 door lock light flashing and machine will not start

The problem
On a Hotpoint BWD129, the door lock light flashes as soon as the machine is switched on and the washer will not start any programme. No other fault lights were reported. The door appeared to shut and latch normally, and the filter had been checked and found clear.
Likely cause
The accepted reply indicates the most likely cause is a faulty door lock mechanism or a connection fault affecting the door lock circuit. This was suggested because the door lock light continued flashing instead of going steady when the door was closed.
What fixed it
The thread points to diagnosis of the door lock system and its connections. No completed repair or exact faulty part was confirmed in the discussion. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.
Checks to try
  • Drainage checked
  • Filter emptied and nothing found in it
  • Door closes and latch feels secure
  • No other lights flashing

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

I would expect a door lock light to stop flashing when the door is closed properly and the door lock activates. Then the machine will start. If the door lock light remains flashing then there's a possibility the door lock mechanism isn't working or has a connection fault somewhere.
