I replaced the door interlock with no change in display . Then found some coins in the pump filter and this seemed to cure problem. Worked for 3 cycles and now "door" is on display again and although door locks/unlocks when switched on/off the cycle will not start. Pump filter is clear.Any ideas?

Hotpoint WT721 shows 'door' and will not start despite door locking

The problem
A Hotpoint WT721 washing machine displayed 'door' and would not start a cycle. The door lock had already been replaced with no change. Coins were previously found in the pump filter and the machine then ran for three cycles, but the fault returned. The pump filter was later confirmed clear. The door still locked and unlocked when switched on and off.
Likely cause
The accepted reply says the coins in the pump filter were a red herring and would only be expected to affect draining if the machine were left full of water. The exact cause of the 'door' indication was not confirmed in the discussion.
What fixed it
No confirmed repair was provided. The accepted advice pointed to general checks around the door interlock/start issue rather than the pump blockage. The exact repair was not confirmed.
Checks to try
  • Door interlock replaced
  • Coins found in pump filter
  • Pump filter later checked and found clear
  • Observed that the door locks and unlocks when switched on and off
  • Machine ran for three cycles before fault returned
Parts or tools mentioned
