Hotpoint Wt741 - Door Error Following Capacitor Replacement

Hello,

I recently had the common issue with flashing LEDs. I purchased a replacement capacitor, followed someone's procedure for replacement and sure enough the flashing LED issue has gone.

However, when I went to run a cycle, I can hear the door mechanically lock but for whatever reason the LED for "door locked" doesn't illuminate and the cycle doesn't start. After a period of time a door error message comes up on the display.

Can I really have caused this by replacing the capacitor on the PCB, if so can I replace another component? What should I check for?

I cannot believe the door lock is broken as before the flashing led issue, it was working ok.

Any advice is very welcome.

Many thanks,

Alex

Replacing a capacitor shouldn't cause a problem unless by any chance it's the wrong one. If the door lock is locking then it's working, however, once locked it should pass power onto the rest of the machine and it appears this is where the problem lies. Either power is not being passed on (still possibly a fault on the door lock but rare) or the wire which takes this power onto the rest of the machine is disconnected or broken somewhere. The other possibility, and possibly the most likely (especially after the flashing lights) is that there is a problem inside the main pcb. I wouldn't guess at anything. If you can't see anything obvious get an engineer in. This article will help explain exactly how most door locks work which can help in diagnosing faults.
