Waterproof fault Miele washing machine W5740

Hi. My Miele washing machine is beeping and flashing 'waterproof fault'. I had just cleaned out the filter but had not replaced it, I suspect my daughter ( would like to say she is only a toddler, but is 18!) came home with her washing and attempted to use the machine without the filter put back properly. Is that anything to do with it or is it a coincidence? Either way does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it please?

if I could do this before my husband came home that would be amazing!

many thanks

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Miele W5740 showing 'Waterproof fault' after filter was not refitted properly

The problem
A Miele W5740 washing machine was beeping and flashing 'Waterproof fault' shortly after the drain filter had been cleaned and apparently not put back properly before the machine was used.
Likely cause
The accepted reply states that 'Waterproof fault' means the machine has detected a leak in the base. In this case, the strongest supported cause is water leaking from the filter area because the filter may not have been clean or fitted back correctly.
What fixed it
Remove the filter again, ensure it is clean, and refit it properly. If the fault persists, further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.
Checks to try
  • Drain filter removed again
  • Filter checked for cleanliness
  • Filter checked/refitted properly

Safety: If the fault continues after the filter is correctly refitted, further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Waterproof fault on a Miele washing machine means it's detected a leak in the base of the machine. If you've just cleaned out the filter, remove it again and make sure it is clean and fitted back properly as it could have leaked from there. Otherwise call an engineer or check my help article washing machine leaking
