Hotpoint Ultima Wt741 Door Lock Light Not On

I have a hotpoint ultima wt741 , about 4yrs old , washing machine does not show that the door is closed , the red closed light does not now come on, and machine will not start. l have removed top of machine and removed and inspected the lock switch/sensor and unplugged connector , all looks ok. I have refitted the door lock but the machine still cannot 'see that the door is in the closed position' and will not start. It first started playing up when you tried to start a wash it would flash up 'DOOR' but if you opened and re-closed the door the door light would come on and the wash would instantly start....but now seems to have failed all together?

Any Ideas?

It sounds like either a problem with the door or door latch not operating the door interlock properly, or the door interlock is faulty.

If the fault only occurred after moving house then the suspicion is that something happened during the move. The first thing I'd check is that the socket is ok by running another appliance from it but it looks like you've already done that. The suspicion is that either the door could have got twisted or otherwise damaged during transit or some connection (that may have already been dodgy or loose) has broken.

Apart from checking the door seems to be normal, and that the door catch lug that pushes into the door interlock when the door is closed isn't broken or come loose there isn't much else you can do. I would try spraying some WD40 into the door interlock and on the door catch to make sure they are closing nicely and also make sure the door seal hasn't partially come away from the door rim preventing the door closing properly either.

An experienced electrical DIYer may check the door interlock wires are all on ok but other than that you'll need to get it looked at.

I think I may have the same problem. Moved house at the weekend, plumbed it in and all was fine. Went to do some washing the next day and the machine was dead. The display flashes for a split second when I switch the power off and back on, but then nothing. Have checked the plug, the socket and made sure the door is properly shut. Two young children so my washing is piling up - HELP!!
