Hotpoint Wm67 Door Hinge
I ordered a new door hinge and whilst removing the old hinge, a back plate seemed to drop into the washing machine meaning there is nowhere to screw the new hinge onto! To retrieve the back plate I assume I need to remove the front cover. Can you advise please. Many thanks.

Hotpoint WM67 door hinge backing plate dropped inside cabinet
- The problem
- While removing the old door hinge on a Hotpoint WM67 washing machine, the hinge back plate/bracket fell inside the machine, leaving nowhere to screw the new hinge onto.
- Likely cause
- The hinge mounting back plate/bracket became dislodged and dropped into the cabinet during hinge removal.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to unplug the machine, remove the door seal clamp band, peel the door seal back from the door opening, and reach down to retrieve the dropped hinge bracket. An alternative suggested method was to tip the machine back and feel around the chassis, although this was described as trickier because of a deep shelf where the bracket can fall. The thread was marked solved, but the user did not post a final confirmation of the exact method used.
- Checks to try
- Confirmed the new hinge could not be screwed on because the back plate had dropped inside the machine
- Suggested removing the door seal clamp band and peeling back the door seal to gain access
- Suggested alternatively tipping the washing machine back and feeling around the chassis
- Parts or tools mentioned
- New door hinge
- Hinge back plate/bracket
- Door seal clamp band
- Flat bladed screwdriver
Safety: Unplug the washing machine before attempting retrieval.

Hi, you should be able to retrieve it by unplugging the washing machine and taking off the door seal clamp band and then unpeeling the door seal from the door opening. You can then reach down and find it. Just insert a flat bladed screwdriver between the plastic clips that hold the door seal onto the door opening and gently prize the two pieces apart. The door gasket just comes off easily.
Alternatively, you may be able to retrieve the hinge bracket by tipping the washing machine back and feeling around the chassis although it can be tricky because there is a deep shelf where it falls.
