Hoover Performa AC110 door hinge removal query
- The problem
- The user asked how to remove the door hinge assembly on a Hoover Performa AC110 washing machine, as it appeared to be fixed with rivets rather than screws.
- Likely cause
- The discussion indicates some earlier Hoover machines used pop-rivetted door hinges, while later versions used star-head screws. For this machine, the strongest supported diagnosis is that the hinge may be pop-rivetted to the casing.
- What fixed it
- If the hinge is rivetted, the accepted advice was that it would need drilling out and the replacement hinge should be supplied with new rivets. If it is the later type, it should unscrew using the star-head fixings and then lift away. Pop rivets were recommended rather than substituting long screws or bolts, which could catch the door seal. The exact repair carried out was not confirmed.
- Checks to try
- Checked whether the hinge fixings were rivets or star-head screws
- Advised that once unscrewed, the hinge should lift up and away
- Warned that replacement screws or bolts must not protrude and catch the door seal
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Replacement door hinge
- New rivets
- Pop rivet gun
Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Some earlier Hoover washing machines had door hinges that were rivetted to the casing, and needed drilling out (new rivets were supplied with the new door hinge) but these later ones should unscrew. They usually have those special star shaped heads now. Once unscrewed the door hinge should lift up and away.

I believe it is rivets on this washing machine as it was bought over 3 years ago. If this is the case if I drill them out then can I add screws and where do i get them from.... I have never messed with a washing machine b4 apart from the pump. Should it be easy enough
If your door hinge is pop rivetted in, then the new door hinge should come with new rivets. The only problem would be if you don't have a pop rivet gun. If you used screws, or a nut and bolt, you'd have to make sure they weren't too long because they may catch on the door seal and hole it. Pop rivets are strongly recommended.
